Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Symptoms

From mild numbness and tingling, to excruciating pain and atrophy of the muscles of the thumb, reduced fine motor skills, burning, tingling, numbness in the thumb and first three fingers, pins and needles, weakening of the thumb.

Causes

Repetetive stress syndrome, misalignment of hands while performing repetetive tasks such as computer work and carpentry. Other injuries to the neck, shoulder and wrist may be present. Tapping on the wrist will elicit symptoms.

Treatment

Massage is necessary to heal this condition. Massaging the neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist to release adhesions, spasm and restore flexibility and range of motion can in most cases heal this condition without the need for surgery or splints and other immobilization devices. The pain of this condition is usually in the wrist and hand, but the cause of the problem is normally in the neck, and arms which is why the splints are virtually ineffective. Massage is so effective for this condition, in most cases the pain and symptomology can be greatly reduced and eliminated in a short period of time. Your therapist will also ask you questions as to the cause of your carpal tunnel syndrome then suggest ways to alter your habits so you don’t go right back to doing the motion that caused the problem in the first place..
