Knee Pain

Symptoms

Usually a sharp pain felt under or behind the knee cap upon weight bearing.
A fact that many people don’t know is that most knee pain is caused by an imbalance in the leg musculature. The muscles in the front and back of the thigh (quads and hamstrings), and the shins and calves, all have their attachments to bone around the knee joint.
If any of those muscles tighten and shorten, they cause an unbalanced strain on the knee causing pain and damage.

Causes

Knee injury, jobs that require prolonged standing and/or squatting, sports that strain the leg muscles, past injuries, tendon and ligament tears.

Treatment

Massage therapy that focuses on lengthening the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the leg with concentration around the knee. Knee pain can be relieved quickly when the cause is from muscle imbalance. The muscles of the hips, abdominals and lower back will be addressed to rule out an imbalance in those areas causing un-do strain on the knees.
