Tennis/Golfer's Elbow

Symptoms

Tennis Elbow: Pain is experienced on the outside of the elbow in tennis elbow, and inside the elbow for golfer’s elbow, and is usually gradual with tenderness felt on or below the elbow joint. Movements such as gripping, lifting and carrying tend to be troublesome. Occasionally, pain radiates down the arm toward the wrist.
Pain caused by lifting or bending the arm or grasping even light objects such as a coffee cup.
Difficulty fully extending the forearm.
Pain that typically lasts for 6 to 12 weeks; the discomfort can continue for as little as 3 weeks or as long as several years.

Causes

Although tennis elbow commonly affects tennis players, it also affects other athletes and people who participate in leisure or work activities that require repetitive arm, elbow, and wrist movement. Examples include golfers, baseball players, bowlers, gardeners or landscapers, house or office cleaners (because of vacuuming, sweeping and scrubbing), carpenters, mechanics, and assembly-line workers.

Treatment

The muscles of the arms, shoulders, neck, pectorals and upper back will be massaged to relieve pain, restore muscular balance and range of motion so you can quickly return to activity. Your therapist will offer suggestions for self-care to prevent future occurances.
