Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Symptoms

Pain accompanied by numbness and tingling down the arm and into the fingers and in some cases in the chest and mid-back. The pain can be mild to debilitating. Often thoracic outlet syndrome can become confused with carpal tunnel syndrome because they have similar symptoms.

Causes

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome originates in the neck, compressing the nerves under the collar bone causing numbness and pain down the arm into the fingers.

Treatment

By releasing the trigger points and realigning the muscles of the neck, pectorals upper back, the ribs and the arms, the pressure and pain will be eliminated from the collar bone thereby stopping the pain from shooting down the arm causing pain and numbness. Most of the treatments available for this syndrome include wrist braces and splints, anti-inflammatory medication and stretching. While these treatments give some relief, they do not address the cause of the condition, which varies from person to person. A thorough evaluation and treatment plan will identify the exact areas of pain and trauma for a more thorough and complete recovery.
